　　Andrew：But he starts the job which he knows he can’t finish. And for me, that’s very strange, he expects …what does he say …my sons produce my grandsons, +++ So the work will go on, he expects his family will continue what he wants to do. In the west, at least if my father starts the job ,he wouldn’t expect me to finish it, he will finish the job
　　但是他开始了一项他自己知道不能完成的工作，这令我觉得很奇怪。他的说法是：“子又生孙，孙又生子。子又有子，子又有孙，子子孙孙无穷匮也。”他指望这项工作能够持续下去，他指望他的家人继续他想做的事。在西方，至少如果是我的父亲开始了这项工作，他不会指望我去完成，他会自己完成它。
　　Andrew：(the gods are helping him, )but it’s a very physical task, he has. it’s not using the brain power, he is using muscle power. Physical power, yes.  And of course, there is no mention of daughters. There are no daughters in the story, no girls, except for the widow who is important, because she has no man. I think that’s a very important point. If this was written in Britain, we would have probably more women in the story. Maybe a heroine, also, there are all heroes.
　　(神灵们帮助着他)，这是一项机械的工作。它运用的是体力，而不是脑力。很显然，故事里没有提到他的女儿，没有涉及女性，除了那个寡妇。而她之所以重要，是因为她失去了丈夫。我认为这是很重要的一点。如果这个故事发生在英国，故事里会出现更多的女性，可能会有一个女主角，而不像这里，主角都是男性。
　　Andrew：It is a story about an old foolish man, a foolish old man, who has a foolish idea to move a mountain. And the first thing I would say is in the West, we will not move the mountains, we’ll go around.
　　这是一个关于一个愚蠢的老头的故事，他有一个荒谬愚蠢的想法——移山。首先我想说的是，如果在西方，我们不会想到移山，我们会绕道而行。
　　Ryan：You Gong, if you put down characters, I can know something about what the name means. What does his name mean? Yu means foolish, oh really? Gong means an old man. A foolish old man. But is he foolish? That’s a question. Because he did it, succeeded, in the end.
　　愚公，如果你加入中文，我就可以了解一点他的名字的含义。他的名字是什么意思？——“愚”是愚蠢的意思，哦，是吗？“公”的意思是老人——一个愚蠢的老头。但他愚蠢吗？这是个问题，因为在最后，他确实做到了。
　　Ryan：Maybe I think he’s a crazy old man, he has a dream, and he will convince his family to follow the same dream. I have to ask, why didn’t he do this when he was young? When he has youth and strength?
　　也许我可以认为他是一个疯狂的老头，他有一个梦想，而且他会去说服他的家人追随他的梦想。我很想问的是，为什么他不在年轻力壮的时候做这件事呢？(而现在这么老了,还要其他人来继续他自己的事情)
　　师：提供了一点新的视角。采访里面可以注意到，他们在强调：“愚”——“foolish”。最后Ryan还说了句：“crazy！”那么我们，是不是可以顺着他们的思路追问？
　　师：中国人都这么聪明，为什么会对这样一个疯狂的，一个愚老人，这样津津乐道呢？会千年传诵呢？思考一分钟，好不好？把你的观点酝酿得成熟一点。你也许可以结合我们发下来讲义上的材料。它肯定背后隐藏着中国人非常喜欢的，或者我们非常熟悉的一种密码，文化的密码。你可不可以跳出来阐释一下，到底有哪些理由？
